International Volunteer Day

5th December

International Volunteer Day was was designated by the United Nations in 1985 as an international observance day to celebrate the power and potential of volunteerism.

We would like to thank all of the volunteers here in Whitby for all of the work they do – from the amazing volunteers in the charity shops through to the stewards at many of the events that happen in Whitby, from the Street Angels to Whitby Beach Sweep, to those that risk life and limb helping those stuck out at sea with the RNLI.

If you are a volunteer at any event, organisation or group in Whitby on 5th December you can get a hot drink and cake for just £2! All you need to do is show your volunteer ID.

On behalf of everyone living in, working in and visiting Whitby we’d like to say thank you for making this town safe, clean and simply great!

24th October – 15th December

Free to attend

You are invited to cross the Threshold!

A brand new exhibition with a big difference has made its entrance!

The Threshold exhibition, presented by Decadent Drawing, is a constantly revolving and evolving show, featuring artworks, sculpture, photography, live performances and more.

The show is constantly evolving throughout the exhibition period with new works added and replacing others. Every day is different.

The show is in association with the Whitby Krampus Run, Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival and the Folk Horror Revival’s “Winter’s Ghosts” event. Also supported by community groups, the exhibition showcases some of the finest talent the alternative art scene has to offer.

Organiser and artist Elaine Edmunds said “The show focuses on questioning narrow boundaries and traditional concepts of art by investigating and looking at more thought provoking themes like folklore and origins of traditions.”

The show will be held in the Ballroom at Hetty and Betty and runs from 24th October until 15th December. The show is open throughout the Whitby Goth Weekend, Tomorrow’s Ghosts Festival Whitby Krampus Run, and the Folk Horror Revival event.
