Food delicious, staff efficient and friendly, very clean and dog friendly too even supply water for them. Small menu but lots of alternatives including breakfast until 11.00am. Lunches include fish and chips (delicious) and salads plus many other choices.
Parking: Plenty of car parks around the harbour but can be expensive £5.00 for four hours £7.50 all day
Wheelchair accessibility: The doorway is a bit tight but manageable with help.
We ate here twice! Very dog friendly. Nice cake. Cracking fish n chips.
Great find in Whitby, lovely dog friendly cafe. The fish and chips were amongst the best I’ve ever eaten, certainly better value and quality than the over rated takeaways on the Quayside.
Another visit to this lovely establishment in June 2023 the service was excellent and the food beautiful , my iced coffee really hit the spot on a very warm day.
Lovely chilled atmosphere, dog friendly which is always handy in the rain, perfect chips and fresh, light fish. Perfection. Definitely will be going again when in whitby

Called in Hetty and Betty’s today for a coffee. Got a table overlooking the harbour which was good. Very friendly service. Coffee and teacakes spot on. Next time we are in Whitby this is where we will head to.
Popped in for Fish and Chips for lunch in a nice sunny and busy day in Whitby. We’re seated out the back with plenty of sunshine and views of the harbour. Food was quick and very tasty!
Just finished breakfast here and it was perfect, lovely staff and location, excellent value for money. It is dog friendly and we have eaten here many times previously and always very good.
We enjoyed a lovely cream scone and hot drink here whilst escaping the weather. The scones were lovely and it was a great place to people watch.
During our visit to Whitby, we stopped by Hetty and Betty Café, which is conveniently located right in the centre of town. It’s one of the few dog-friendly cafes in the area, which is a big plus for pet owners like us.
We just popped in for coffees and cake. The carrot cake was quite nice, but let me tell you, the scones with jam and cream were even better!
My mocha was pretty tasty too, but just a small suggestion – a dusting of cocoa on top would make it even better. Just an idea for next time!
All in all, we had a lovely time at Hetty and Betty Café and would definitely come back again. If you’re in Whitby with your furry friend and fancy a great coffee and some delicious scones, this is the place to be!
We booked a Hetty and Betty Fish and Chip Afternoon Tea as a special treat during our holiday in Whitby. The staff were super attentive and friendly and as we were a big party, we even got our own private room in which to dine.
The fish and chips were absolutely delicious and the fish batter was really light and crisp. We didn’t think we would have room for the scones that accompanied the afternoon tea, but we couldn’t resist. So glad we managed to fit them in as they were very tasty indeed!

A fish and chip afternoon tea is a genius idea. The surroundings are lovely, the staff are helpful and friendly and the food was really delicious. A lovely experience all round.
Our usual preferred Whitby restaurant was closed so we looked for an alternative and decided to give Hetty and Betty a try. So pleased that we did. The place is stylish but not overwhelming so anyone over 25 feels out of place. The tables are placed so you d feel safely spaced.
We ordered the Afternoon Tea for Two which included Fish and Chips! Definately different! The cod was gorgeous with a thin batter. The chips were lovely and mushy peas and tartare sauce came included. Sadly, we did not have room for the scones so they were put in a box to take home (plus a slice of red velvet cake ).
Visited twice now and both times great food and service. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Our new cafe of choice when visiting Whitby – which we do often! Our usual dog friendly cafes were either closed or full this morning on the cobbled side, so we decided to have a look over the bridge and were delighted to find Hetty & Betty’s cafe, such a fabulous, very dog friendly cafe! Breakfast was gorgeous, lovely quality produce, very reasonably priced and staff lovely! We will see you again on our next visit! Thank you! x

Lovely little cafe off the main stretch of street. Atmosphere was warm and inviting and the staff were attentive and helpful. Service was good and food came out in good time. Fish and scampi were both delicious.

My daughter and I went for afternoon tea today. As usual it was absolutely delicious, the lemon cake was just the best ever.
Although we live in Whitby it’s one of our go to places for lunch. My granddaughters christening party was held in the ballroom and everyone commented how fabulous it was.
Other diners were having the fish and chip afternoon tea… oh boy it looked fabulous

This is a lovely cafe/restaurant which we hadn’t visited before. Two lovely ladies were running it, and the service was very friendly and quick.
We all had breakfast, and it was very nice too, if perhaps a little on the small side, portion wise.
Will return.
We had a lovely fish and chip lunch here. Good quality fish which was well cooked in a light crisp batter. Chips were sooooo good. Very nice service and pleasant atmosphere. Very good value for money.
Excellent cafe which we went in by chance and what a delightful find. A busy day in Whitby this Sunday 15th and this was a much better choice than queueing up in the cold for overpriced chips. We had a very warm welcome by the manager who seated us promptly. We were welcome in with our two dogs who also had a treat and bowl of water brought to them. The food was first rate and lovely and hot. This is a busy cafe in a great location so getting a seat at busy times could be a problem. Very friendly and helpful staff and highly recommended. We will definitely go here for lunch next time we are in Whitby.
I went for the large English breakfast which was all cooked perfectly, tasted really nice, at a really decent price. The portions were just right. I’ll definitely be going back for breakfast again.

Today was our first visit to this lovely place…definitely will not be our last. Delicious full English…brilliant staff…stylish interior…made to feel extremely welcome…and it’s dog friendly! 😀

This is a lovely tea room with very friendly staff its dog friendly to.
We needed a cuppa and a sit down. Though very busy, we were seated fairly promptly. Dog friendly establishment. There is a children’s menu (under 10 yrs), and they do both vegan and vegetarian afternoon teas. Good to see these options being proffered. Reasonably priced menu. I would revisit.

Brilliant Breakfast
Stopped here for breakfast. What a great place with lovely inexpensive food and friendly staff. We had a bacon buttie and a sausage and egg buttie. Washed down with orange juice and tea it was delicious. Loved the wallpaper and decor too!

Booked this in online so not really sure what we were getting but it was perfect for our annual reunion.

We had classic afternoon tea, fish and chips afternoon tea and vegetarian afternoon tea. All delicious and the service was great. Seated in the new extension with skylight, overlooking the harbour. Tea and coffee was replenished and boxes supplied to carry away what we couldn’t manage to eat.

Brillant find on our recent visit to Whitby .. the Regatta was on and it was a blistering hot day but this cafe is an oasis of calm … From excellent reasonably priced sandwiches and snacks to the way they accommodated various groups of folks throughout our visit with little fuss and extreme friendliness .. hope the members of staff won their the regatta races too! Thank you to all your lovely staff and to the cleaning staff too for excellent facilities Well done one and all.
Found this place on the off chance after finding out our hotel didn’t do breakfast. Straight away we were reassured that they could provide us with Gluten Free for myself (coeliac). We were seated and served by Jane who gave us a lovely welcome, was chatty, friendly and happily provided my parents with enough tea to satisfy their tea-drinking compulsions! If your in whitby and require a breakfast.. GO HERE and ask for Jane (if it’s a Monday or tuesday) x
Really enjoyed our lunch today, 2 x scampi and sandwiches. Efficient service and very friendly. Would highly recommend.
Visited Hetty and Betty’s for the first time yesterday as part of View Yorkshire’s photography workshop. Sampled one of their signature Yorkshire afternoon teas. As vegetarians we enjoyed the battered Brie in place of fish, and the scones were a meal in themselves. Another member of the group was gluten free and was well catered for too. Our first visit, but it won’t be our last!

Visited Whitby and had lunch here. Three of us had fish and chips and the fourth had a ham and tomato sandwich. A piece of lemon drizzle cake was our dessert. Service was very good.
We came here because the usual well known places in Whitby were queuing. A bit surprised it seemed quite, a sign usually of poor food. How wrong I was. We had the Fish and Chip Afternoon tea. Really good value. Tasted really good. I dont where other reviews said it was more expensive than the Star and Magpie. It isn’t. The member of staff we had was great. Well done young man.
