Did you know that our fabulous colour scheme in our downstairs cafe was inspired by Whitby’s own Louis the Peacock?
Louis was the resident peacock in Pannet Park during the 1950s/1960s.
Peacocks, like swans, mate for life, and so when Louis’ peahen sadly passed away, Louis spent his time calling out for her.
The residents of Whitby decided to give Louis a new lease of life, and he was moved to a nearby farm, which you would know today as Flamingo Land!
Louis is still very much remembered here in Whitby, and a sculpture of him resides in Pannet Park. Why not see it for yourself the next time you visit Whitby? Ask our lovely staff for directions!
Whilst in Pannet Park, why not visit the Whitby Museum. A fascinating insight into Whitby’s past! Find out more at: https://whitbymuseum.org.uk
